The University of Calabar (UniCal) plans to rehabilitate its medical centre ahead of the 2026 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games scheduled to hold at the institution.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Offiong Offiong, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Ekaete Enang, disclosed this on Tuesday during a visit by the medical board.
Offiong directed the board to submit a detailed report on the centre’s challenges and needs, assuring it that management would work to improve healthcare services and explore partnerships with relevant health agencies.
He said remedial measures would be implemented ahead of the games to provide adequate medical support for athletes and officials.
Earlier, the board’s chairman, Dr Victor Nwagbara, said the visit was to brief management on the centre’s condition. He identified inadequate funding as its major challenge and called for increased financial support.
