Iran says its airlines are maintaining international flights despite sweeping US sanctions targeting the country’s aviation sector.
Majid Akhavan, spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation, told ISNA on Tuesday that no international flights operated by Iranian airlines had been cancelled and services were running as scheduled.
He said passengers would be informed in advance of any changes.
State carrier Iran Air also said it had received no instructions from aviation authorities in Turkey, Iraq or Azerbaijan to suspend flights.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that Washington planned to intensify pressure on Iran’s aviation sector, with the aim of grounding Iranian airlines worldwide from Wednesday.
Bessent warned that countries providing Iranian carriers with fuel or ground services, or allowing ticket sales, could face exclusion from the US dollar system.
The US imposed new sanctions on Iran’s aviation sector two weeks ago, targeting 27 airlines and warning foreign companies and banks of potential consequences for continuing business with them.
International airlines have largely avoided flying to Iran since the war began in late February.
