The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed cows and food items to 13 rehabilitation centres across the state as part of activities marking the Maulud Nabiyi celebration.
The items included rice, vegetable oil and other food ingredients.
SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, said the gesture was initiated by Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf to provide succour to patients in the centres and make them feel valued and cared for by society.
He urged parents and guardians to visit their relatives in the centres regularly and take them home when they were stable.
Abdullahi-Kubarachi also called on families to support the patients and facilitate their reintegration into their communities.
The Director in charge of Rehabilitation Centres at SEMA, Maryam Musa, described the gesture as the first of its kind, saying it demonstrated the government’s concern for the welfare of patients undergoing rehabilitation.
Speaking on behalf of the centres, the leader of the Dorayi Rehabilitation Centre, Mannir Dahiru-Kurawa, commended the initiative, saying the items would help provide relief to patients and support the centres in meeting their needs.
