A 37-year-old man, Tolulope Agboola, on Thursday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three pairs of trousers valued at N76,000.
Agboola, of no fixed address, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 11, at about 7 p.m., at Nao Supermarket, Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole two pairs of jogger trousers valued at N60,000 and a pair of jeans valued at N16,000, property of Nao Supermarket.
Oriyomi said the supermarket’s Closed-Circuit Television camera allegedly captured the defendant, leading to his apprehension.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Ogunrinde Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the court that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adosun, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 30 for further hearing.
