A 48-year-old woman, Yetunde Oke, and her 19-year-old son, Rotimi Oke, on Tuesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 103 pieces of T-shirts and polo worth N612,000.
The defendants, whose addresses were not stated, are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Aina, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences at about 10 a.m. on Aug. 8, at the post office area in Ado-Ekiti.
Aina alleged that the defendants conspired to commit a felony, to wit, stealing.
He also alleged that the defendants stole 103 pieces of T-shirts and polo worth N612,000, belonging to Temidayo Clement.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by constituting a nuisance in a public place.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 421, 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Ogunrinde Abiola, urged the court to grant them bail, assuring that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olatomiwa Daramola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 5 for hearing.
