In a frank interview with L’Équipe, Mbappe made a definitive statement regarding his individual levels over the past year, brushing off criticism about his club’s trophy-less campaign. Even though Real Madrid and France missed out on major team silverware, Mbappé argues that the Golden Ball should reward individual brilliance above all else.

Laying out his case, Mbappé didn’t hold back:

”There isn’t a single player who had a better season than me. I believe I have chances.”

The Frenchman pointed heavily to his staggering numbers: 25 goals in La Liga, 15 in the Champions League, and his historic run at the 2026 World Cup where he overtook Lionel Messi to become the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 22 goals. He believes those defining individual milestones should carry the ultimate weight when voters cast their ballots.
