A 24-year-old woman, Sandra James, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a handbag at a place of worship in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.
James, whose address was not provided, was charged with stealing and pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on Aug. 6 by stealing a handbag belonging to the complainant, Folashade Adebiyi.
Leo said James was caught after an usher noticed her rushing out of the worship centre with the missing handbag and raised an alarm.
He said the offence contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 6 for hearing.
