The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State has warned the public against individuals circulating fake appointment and nomination letters purportedly issued by the commission.
The commission’s Public Affairs Officer, Hassan Sarki-Gendane, gave the warning in a statement on Tuesday in Sokoto.
Sarki-Gendane said some individuals were circulating fake letters claiming to have been issued by the commission’s National Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN.
He said the letters purportedly offered appointments to positions including State Coordinator of Local Government R-TECH, Electoral Officers (EOs) and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs).
He stressed that INEC had dissociated itself from the individuals and the purported letters, urging the public not to engage with or make payments to anyone presenting such documents.
Sarki-Gendane said INEC would not demand money from individuals in exchange for appointments or the conduct of elections.
He urged anyone who encountered individuals circulating fake letters or soliciting money in the name of INEC to report them to the nearest security agency or INEC office for appropriate action.
He also advised the public to rely only on official INEC communication channels for information on appointments, recruitment and electoral activities.
Sarki-Gendane reiterated the commitment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Sokoto State, Umar Yusuf-Garba, to conducting free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
