Growth across MTN Group’s African markets powered a 17.5 per cent increase in service revenue to R115 billion in the first half of 2026, driven by rising demand for data, voice and digital services.

The South Africa-based telecommunications group said earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, excluding one off items, rose by nearly 25 per cent to R56 billion for the six months ended June 30.

MTN said the revenue uplift was led by its largest operations on the continent.

MTN Ghana, MTN Nigeria, MTN Uganda, MTN Ivory Coast and MTN Cameroon delivered the strongest contributions, with other group businesses also adding to growth.

The performance comes as MTN advances its Ambition 2030 strategy, which is focused on expanding connectivity, scaling fintech and enterprise services, and creating long-term shareholder value across Africa.

MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, said the results showed how commercial momentum in African markets was translating into earnings and cash.

“The Group’s overall performance in the period reflects strong conversion of the commercial momentum we see across our markets into growth in earnings, cash flow and returns,”

Mupita stated. Analysts say the numbers highlight Africa’s role as MTN’s primary growth engine.

Continued demand for mobile data, digital platforms and financial services is offsetting pressure in more mature markets and supporting the group’s expansion plans.
