José Mourinho didn’t hold back when questioning the referee’s decisions following Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Real Betis.
The manager vented his frustration over a late booking shown to Vinícius Júnior, who was wearing the captain’s armband. Vinícius was shown a yellow card after stepping up to ask the official for clarification on a call.
Speaking on the incident, Mourinho demanded answers about the officiating:
”Why did the Real Madrid captain receive a yellow card? When Vinicius approached the referee and saw the card before he even reached him, I’d like to know why. Why are we always told that the captain has the right to politely approach the referee to ask for an explanation?”
The decision capped off a tense finish in Seville, where Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season after a late Betis goal and a missed stoppage-time penalty from Kylian Mbappé.
