Manchester City kept up their 100% start under new manager Enzo Maresca and showed class over a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland got the only goal of the game in the 26th minute, powering home a bullet header from an Antoine Semenyo cross after Enzo Fernández unlocked Coventry’s defense with a smart pass.
The match saw debut starts for new summer signings Enzo Fernández and Iliman Ndiaye. Enzo was thrown into the starting lineup right before kickoff after Nico O’Reilly got injured in the warm-up, but he looked sharp in midfield alongside Elliot Anderson. On the left wing, Ndiaye caused Coventry plenty of problems with his quick feet and direct running.
Coventry had moments to equalize, but Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled off crucial saves to keep the clean sheet and secure all three points for Enzo Maresca’s side.
