Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, turns 60 today, September 2, 2026, but the milestone is being marked quietly.
Ahead of his birthday, Shettima asked friends, associates and well-wishers to shun birthday adverts and elaborate celebrations in his honour.
Instead, he urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the country, particularly for peace, security, economic progress and the success of the government.
Shettima, who served as governor of Borno State before becoming a senator, assumed office as Vice President in May 2023 alongside President Bola Tinubu.
The Vice President has not made a birthday post on his social media platforms as of today, in line with the low-key approach to the celebration.
President Tinubu has, however, congratulated his deputy on reaching the milestone and praised his contributions to the administration.
At 60, Shettima is choosing a quieter celebration, with the focus placed on prayers for Nigeria rather than personal fanfare.
