A 31-year-old businessman, Mubarak Hashimu, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass, intimidation and mischief.
The police charged the defendant with the three offences.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr Festus Ajayi, told the court that the complainant, Paul Egnoyi, reported the matter at the Garki Police Division on Aug. 24.
Ajayi alleged that Hashimu trespassed on the complainant’s shop at UTC, Area 10, Garki, Abuja, and destroyed his signboard.
He further alleged that the defendant broke the complainant’s door and threatened to deal with him.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 348, 397 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The defence counsel, Mrs Helen Akpala, applied for bail pursuant to Sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
Chief Magistrate Habiba Bello granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety.
The magistrate ordered the surety to provide an affidavit of means of livelihood, passport photographs and a National Identity Card and to reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the matter until Sept. 15 for hearing.
