The Police Command in Katsina State has arrested a 19-year-old man for alleged impersonation and attempted robbery.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Katsina.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspect was arrested following a report received by the police on Aug. 22 at about 7 p.m.
He said the suspect was allegedly seen chasing an unidentified person while pointing a toy pistol at him in an attempt to rob him.
“Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect at about 8 p.m. at Kofar Sauri, Katsina,” he said.
According to the spokesman, a black toy pistol was recovered from the suspect during a search.
He said the suspect remained in police custody while investigation continued.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar-Fage, commended members of the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Umar-Fage said sustained collaboration between security agencies and members of the public was vital to tackling crime and criminality in the state.
