Atlético Madrid have slammed Barcelona following Joan Laporta’s recent comments on Julián Álvarez, completely ruling out any chance of selling the Argentine forward to Camp Nou.
Speaking to Marca, Atlético expressed deep frustration over how Barça have handled the situation, accusing them of waging a campaign of lies that damages Atleti directly.
”The player is being victimized, but the only victim of the Julián case is us. They have harmed us economically and socially. There is 0% chance of selling him to Barça. This situation is not about money, it’s about dignity. There is 0% chance of selling it to Barça,” Atlético told Marca.
They added: “Theres a campaign with many lies and half-truths. The only one who pays for this is Atlético”.
This isn’t the first time bad blood has boiled over between the two clubs. A very similar situation played out when João Félix publicly declared his desire to join Barcelona while under contract at Atlético Madrid. That move sparked massive outrage in Madrid, leaving the relationship between both boardrooms severely fractured before Félix eventually got his loan move. Now with Julián Álvarez, Atlético are refusing to back down or be forced into another deal.
