The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jigawa Command, has dismantled three high-risk drug black spots in Kazaure Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The agency’s spokesperson, ACN Abdullahi Wada, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse on Wednesday.
Wada said the raids were carried out under “Operation Restore Order” between Aug. 12 and 15 at Kadawa village, Bagara Joint and Filin Idi Black Spots in Kazaure.
He explained that the operations were conducted in compliance with the directive of the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, to state commands to dismantle all suspected drug black spots.
He said that during the raid at Kadawa village, operatives arrested one suspect in possession of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa, Exhol-5 tablets, capsules and tramadol tablets.
He added that during a follow-up operation on Aug. 14, four suspects aged between 27 and 46 were arrested at Bagara cannabis smoking joint in Kazaure township.
He further said two suspects, aged 32 and 50, were apprehended at Filin Idi Black Spot in one of the raids.
According to Wada, a total of 1.278kg of illicit drugs was seized during the three operations.
He quoted the NDLEA State Commander, Mr Hassan Kabaju, as commending the operatives for their professionalism and courage.
Kabaju emphasised that the dismantling of the notorious drug joints had sent a clear message that the state would not be a safe haven for drug traffickers and abusers.
“Operation Restore Order is about reclaiming our communities, protecting our youths, and restoring sanity. We will sustain the heat until every black spot is wiped out,” he said.
He revealed that investigations into the cases were still ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigations.
The commander appealed to residents and other members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on drug peddling and abuse in their respective communities.
“Reports can be made to the NDLEA outposts in 27 local government areas of the state and all information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” Kabaju assured.
