Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has accused armed men loyal to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of attacking his convoy during a campaign tour in Usiefrun, Ughelli South Local Government Area, leaving six people hurt.
The NDC’s Delta Central senatorial candidate made the allegation in a statement, naming himself, NDC governorship candidate Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, and other party leaders as targets of the attack.
“I was the main target,” Omo-Agege said.
He described the shooting as “an assassination attempt and an assault on our democracy.”
Omo-Agege claimed the assailants opened fire because they sought to stop his ward-to-ward tour of Delta Central. He alleged that “the APC is gearing up for a coordinated campaign of violence ahead of 2027.”
The attack took place in Usiefrun during a stop on the NDC’s tour of the senatorial district. Omo-Agege said the incident occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2026, one day before he issued the statement.
He said thugs opened fire on NDC supporters who had gathered “to welcome us.” Six party members were wounded, including Believe Biadoyo, Joshua Oghenetega Oyibocha, Owhos Peter, and Ojiyovwin Dennis.
Omo-Agege named four suspects behind the attack: Hon. Simon Mudi, also known as “Temple,” a protocol officer to Governor Oborevwori; Flash Oghenetega Origbon; Ochuko Origbon; and Alex Awherhurho.
He described all four as members of the APC. Omo-Agege linked the Usiefrun shooting to two earlier incidents he had flagged on July 29.
Those incidents were an assault on Hon. Temple Mudi at PTI Effurun and an earlier attack on Iyovwaye in Agholokpe.
He called the pattern “no longer politics” but “a well-orchestrated campaign of violence and attempted murder.” Omo-Agege demanded the “immediate arrest and prosecution” of the four named suspects.
He urged the Delta State Government to suspend any appointee linked to the attack. He also called on the police, DSS, and INEC to treat the incidents as “one connected case” and deploy observers to the area.
Omo-Agege gave Governor Oborevwori 48 hours to condemn the attack.
He warned that “silence will be seen as complicity.”
Omo-Agege said his campaign would continue visiting wards “across Delta Central.”
He appealed to NDC supporters: “Do not retaliate. Do not live in fear.”
