The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has urged manufacturers to embrace smart technology to improve productivity, reduce costs and remain competitive amid economic challenges.
Mahmoud, represented by her Special Assistant on the Social Development Secretariat, Helen Zamani, made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the 13th Annual General Meeting and Public Lecture of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Abuja/Nasarawa/Niger Branch.
She encouraged manufacturers to adopt capital restructuring, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and automation in their operations.
The minister said the FCT Administration remained committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses through investments in roads, water supply, security and urban renewal.
She also stressed the need for stronger public-private collaboration to promote local content, innovation and skills development, while commending MAN for its continued advocacy for Nigeria’s industrial growth.
Earlier, the branch Chairman of MAN, Mr Kayode Alonge, urged governments at all levels to address high energy costs, multiple taxation, insecurity, poor infrastructure and limited access to affordable financing to support the manufacturing sector.
Alonge also called on the Federal Government to institutionalise the “Nigeria First Policy” to encourage the patronage of locally made goods.
While commending the FCT Administration for its ongoing infrastructure projects, he appealed for the urgent rehabilitation of roads and improvements in water and electricity supply at the Idu Industrial District.
