A gender advocate, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi, has called on Nigerian women to participate actively in politics, saying sustainable national development depends on their meaningful contributions across all sectors.
Abdullahi made the call while speaking at the National Convention and Award Presentation organised by the Nigerian Women of Integrity Per Excellence Paragon Association in Abuja.
She said women have a vital role in nation-building and urged them to take up leadership positions in their communities and across the country.
According to her, greater representation in governance would enable women to contribute more effectively to policy formulation and decision-making.
She described women as the bedrock of society and encouraged them to uphold integrity, diligence and compassion while remaining united and committed to national progress.
Also speaking, the Grand Patron of the association, Dr Damilola Fetuga, urged women to step out of their comfort zones and participate actively in politics and nation-building.
Fetuga said women possess the knowledge, capacity and leadership qualities needed to drive national development, adding that the era of excluding women from leadership and decision-making should be over.
She called on governments at all levels to create an enabling environment that promotes equal opportunities and removes barriers limiting women’s participation in politics and other sectors.
The event also featured the presentation of the Integrity Man of the Year 2026 award to Mr Eric Nnamdi Anyamene. The association elected new executives, with Mrs Manu Ramatu emerging as Northern leader, Blessings Odibe as South-East leader, Mrs Nancy Daniel as South-West leader, and Mrs Umoh as South-South leader.
