A 54-year-old man, Ganiyu Ayeni, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations of obtaining N300,000 by false pretence.
Ayeni is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and fraudulent conversion.
The prosecutor, SP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on Jan. 12, 2025, at Ishagira in Ojo.
He alleged that Ayeni collected N300,000 from the complainant, Shehu Tijani, under the pretext of selling him a half plot of land but failed to provide the land and converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Lateef Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 29 for mention.
