Sahara Group has called for a practical approach to Africa’s energy transition, urging governments, investors, policymakers and the media to focus on solutions that reflect the continent’s realities.
Speaking at the third edition of Asharami Square in Lagos, Sahara Group said Africa’s energy transition should be driven by local needs and supported by evidence-based journalism.
The Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure, Sadiq Wanka, said Nigeria’s power sector reforms were creating investment opportunities but stressed that attracting long-term financing remained the biggest challenge.
Speakers at the event also emphasised the need for stronger governance, transparency and well-structured projects to unlock infrastructure financing across Africa.
Sahara Group unveiled the Asharami Square Energy Reporting Fellowship to strengthen energy journalism, saying the initiative would equip journalists to produce more solutions-driven and evidence-based reports on the continent’s evolving energy sector.
