Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says his administration is expanding access to quality education through the construction of smart schools across the state.

Otti spoke while inaugurating the Umuomayiukwu Smart School in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, one of 20 smart schools being built across Abia’s 17 local government areas.

He said the initiative would equip pupils with modern learning facilities, technology-driven education and highly trained teachers, adding that about 6,000 pupils would benefit as the schools become operational.

The governor described education as the foundation of sustainable development, saying the schools were designed to prepare children for a knowledge-driven economy through innovation, critical thinking and excellence.

He urged pupils to make the most of the free education and facilities provided by the government, while warning against vandalism of school infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, said the state remained committed to transforming education through sustained investment in smart schools, while the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Lydia Onuoha, said the initiative would help prepare pupils to compete globally.
