Nigeria has won six medals at the 2026 Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) held in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The National Mathematical Centre (NMC) said the team secured five silver medals and one bronze medal, with an additional bronze in the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad for Girls (PAMO-G) ranking.
According to the centre, Chimfimnanya Aghaduno and Damaris Oyerinde each won two silver medals in PAMO and PAMO-G, while Lius Liu claimed a silver medal and Kingsley Enwere won bronze.
The Acting Director and Chief Executive of the NMC, Prof. Benjamin Oyelami, commended the Federal Government for supporting the team’s participation and pledged to strengthen preparations for future international competitions.
He said the students qualified through the Nigerian National Mathematical Sciences Olympiad and reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to improving mathematics education and research across the country.
Oyelami described PAMO as Africa’s premier annual mathematics competition for secondary school students, providing a platform to promote academic excellence and nurture young mathematical talents.
