Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the commercial distribution of films on mobile phones at charging centres across the 44 local government areas of the state with immediate effect.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminudden, announced the directive on Thursday in Kano.
Aminudden said the decision followed complaints from parents who alleged that some operators of phone charging centres were sharing uncensored films and explicit content with children.
According to him, the practice exposes minors to materials capable of undermining their moral upbringing.
He said many of the films being distributed are neither censored nor protected by copyright, while some operators also share content considered inappropriate for children.
“Under the guise of sharing religious contents, some phone charging centres end up distributing materials harmful to children’s moral development,” he said.
Aminudden noted that films are categorised according to age suitability, but some operators disregard such classifications by distributing content meant for adults to minors.
He said the board had deployed personnel across the 44 local government areas of the state to enforce compliance with the directive.
The deputy commander-general warned that anyone found engaging in the prohibited activity would be prosecuted.
