The Chairperson of Oye Local Government Council, Mrs Clara Bamisile has warned residents against building houses on any form of structure on waterways to avert flooding.
Bamisile gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Oye-Ekiti.
According to her, building on waterways will block the free flow of water and endanger lives and properties of the residents.
Bamisile warned landowners to desist from selling waterways to residents as land for development, warning that any structure built on a waterway would be demolished.
“I want to warn residents who are fond of buying plots of land on waterways and building houses on it to stop immediately before they waste their money.
“We will no longer tolerate lawlessness and violations of government directives stating that nobody should build houses on waterways.
“Any houses built on waterways will be removed to prevent lives and properties from being affected by flood,” she warned.
