The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nyanya-Mararaba District Society, Mr Christopher Chukwudi, has unveiled a three-point agenda for his administration.
Chukwudi unveiled the agenda after his inauguration at the district society’s investiture ceremony in Abuja on Friday.
He said his administration would prioritise membership development, youth engagement and completion of the district’s building project.
“The plan is very clear. Basically, we are looking at how to ensure that all our members are properly captured and then bring them together.
“We will also talk about the Catch Them Young, and then our land, the building project that we have. These are areas we are focusing on in this chairmanship,” he said.
Chukwudi expressed optimism that the objectives would be realised through members’ support.
“I believe that by God’s mercy and the cooperation of our members, we are going to achieve it,” he said.
He said ICAN was also addressing the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations on financial reporting.
“The issue of international transactions on foreign exchange has a great impact on businesses in Nigeria, especially those importing.
“ICAN, as an institute, is working on proper reporting processes so there will be no excess tax as a result of exchange rate fluctuations,” he said.
Earlier, ICAN’s 62nd President and Chairman of Council, Hajia Queensley Seghosime, represented by retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Adamu, urged the new executives to strengthen grassroots engagement.
“They must drive membership, partnership and engagement. The purpose of having district societies is to bring the aspirations and objectives of the institute to the grassroots,” she said.
Seghosime said the Nyanya-Mararaba District Society had expanded membership, student participation and partnerships since its establishment.
“We have brought the advocacy of ICAN to members of this community. The economy of Nyanya and Mararaba has improved through our members’ engagement,” she said.
The ten-member executive committee, headed by its Sixth Chairman Christopher Chukwudi, will be in office for one year.
