The Rotary Club of Jos- Utan, has supported environmental restoration efforts by planting 100 trees at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Jos as part of its commitment to combating climate change and promoting a greener environment.
The club’s president, Mrs Grace Aniah, on Thursday in Jos, said that the initiative was part of Rotary’s environmental stewardship programme aimed at mitigating the effects of global warming and encouraging sustainable environmental practices.
Aniah, said the tree-planting exercise was also intended to promote afforestation, improve biodiversity and inspire communities, schools and institutions to embrace tree planting as a collective responsibility.
She explained that rotary had continued to prioritise environmental sustainability through projects that addressed climate challenges while fostering healthier and more resilient communities.
According to her, every tree planted contributes to cleaner air, improved ecosystems and a safer environment for future generations.
The Rector of St. Augustine’s Major Seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Hassan, commended rotary for the initiative, describing tree planting as a practical and effective way of restoring the environment.
Hassan, who was represented by Rev. Fr. Mugaga David said environmental degradation posed a serious threat to humanity and urged organisations and individuals to emulate rotary by supporting efforts aimed at protecting the environment.
He noted that planting trees remained one of the simplest but most impactful ways of mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity and preserving the earth for future generations.
Report shows that the tree planting project with the theme “Impacting the Environment Sustaining Lives”, formed part of rotary’s environmental initiatives under its area of focus on supporting the environment.
