Former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has donated N27 million to victims of flooding and bandit attacks in Alkaleri and Kirfi Local Government Areas of the state.
Abubakar made the donation on Sunday during a sympathy visit to Alkaleri, Kirfi, Bara and Sabongarin Pali communities.
The APC governorship aspirant said the visit was aimed at identifying with the affected residents, assessing the extent of the damage and providing immediate relief to impacted families.
He donated N17 million in cash, 200 bags of rice and 50 bags of sugar to residents of Bara, Kirfi and Alkaleri communities affected by flooding.
The affected communities were recently hit by floods that displaced hundreds of households, submerged farmlands and damaged critical infrastructure.
Abubakar also donated N10 million to Sabongarin Pali community following bandit attacks that claimed lives, led to abductions and resulted in the rustling of livestock.
The cash and relief materials were handed over to traditional rulers and community representatives for distribution to the most vulnerable households affected by the disasters.
Describing the situation as heartbreaking, Abubakar reaffirmed his commitment to support the affected communities “until normalcy is restored and their livelihoods are rebuilt.
“The APC stands with you in this moment of grief. The welfare of the people remains our top priority.”
He promised to tackle the challenges facing the communities if elected governor in 2027.
Abubakar pledged to invest in flood-control and drainage projects, strengthen community security, support rehabilitation programmes for victims and improve humanitarian assistance and emergency response services.
He also urged residents to remain steadfast in faith and prayer while calling on relevant agencies, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support the affected victims.
