The Kaduna State Police Command has detained a couple in connection with the death of a teenage boy following an incident in the Kurmin-Mashi area of Kaduna metropolis.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development and said investigations were underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to Hassan, the incident occurred on Sunday night along Dahiru Road in Kurmin-Mashi and involved a teenager identified as Sadiq.

Preliminary reports indicated that the boy was allegedly punished by his mother and stepfather over a dispute involving missing money. He was said to have been sent to withdraw money from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator before questions later arose about the transaction.

“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the next line of action,” Hassan said.

Residents of the area expressed shock over the teenager’s death and called for a thorough investigation.

Some witnesses alleged that neighbours and community members attempted to intervene and appealed for restraint during the incident, while others said efforts were made to resolve the matter peacefully.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their work, assuring that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law.
