Osun varsity presents appointment letter to new Chancellor, BOVAS CEO
The management of Osun State University has officially presented the instrument of appointment to Mrs Victoria Samson, confirming her appointment as the Chancellor of the institution.
The chancellor is the founder and Group Managing Director of BOVAS Petroleum Company Limited.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Odunayo Adebooye, presented the letter of appointment to the new Chancellor in her office in Ibadan on Thursday on behalf of the Osun Government and Governing Council of the institution.
Adebooye said that the appointment reflected Samson’s achievements in business leadership, philanthropy and national development.
According to Adebooye, sthe appointment had continued to generate widespread attention within and outside Nigeria, describing it as a major development for the university.
“The institution and the state government are optimistic that Mama Samson’s leadership and experience would further strengthen the university’s global relevance and academic advancement,” Adebooye said.
He commended Gov. Ademola Adeleke for allowing merit and competence to guide appointments in the institution and the state as a whole.
The vice-chancellor noted that the governor had consistently encouraged the university management to appoint individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to the growth of the institution without political interference.
Reading the appointment letter signed by Gov. Adeleke, Adebooye said Samson’s appointment took effect from May 10, 2026, for an initial term of five years.
The letter stated that the appointment was in recognition of Samson’s accomplishments in business leadership, service to humanity and contributions to national development.
It added that, as Chancellor, she would serve as the ceremonial head of the university and provide moral, strategic and inspirational support toward achieving the institution’s vision.
Adebooye also disclosed that the university would soon announce the date for Samson’s formal investiture as Chancellor.
Responding, Samson expressed gratitude to the state government, the governing council and management of the university for the confidence reposed in her.
She described the appointment as an honour and pledged to support the continued growth and development of the institution.
“I thank the governor, the governing council and the university management for this honour. I appreciate the confidence reposed in me,” she said.
Samson received the university delegation in company of Mr Temitope Samson, her son and Deputy Group Managing Director as well as other principal officers of BOVAS Group.
NAN also reports that the V-C was accompanied by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Adetunji Kehinde; Deputy Vice Chancellor Admin., Prof. Moruf Olayiwola; and Registrar, Mrs Atinuke Oguntunde.
Others on the institution’s delegation were the Bursar, Mr Muideen Lasis; Librarian, Dr Olugbenga Adewuyi and Director of Advancement, Mr Marcus Awobifa.
