The Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), AVM Adeniran Ademuwagun, on Thursday said the institute would graduate no fewer than 3,000 students at its 2nd, 3rd and 4th combined convocation ceremonies.
Ademuwagun disclosed this at a press conference ahead of the events scheduled to hold from March 26 to March 28, 2026.
He said the convocation would feature activities such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) induction ceremony, exhibitions, project commissioning and convocation lectures.
According to him, 513 of the graduating students are from Aerospace Engineering and Aircraft Engineering Technology, underscoring the strategic importance of AFIT to the Nigerian Air Force and the nation’s aviation industry.
The commandant explained that AFIT remains Nigeria’s only tripartite institution integrating military, polytechnic and university programmes.
He gave a breakdown of the graduates as 2,112 from programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), 729 from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and 159 from the School of Postgraduate Studies.
On academic performance, Ademuwagun said 305 students graduated with first-class honours across various disciplines, while 146 obtained distinctions in NBTE programmes and 51 recorded distinctions at the postgraduate level.
He identified the overall best graduating students as Oluwole Winner Oluwatimilehin (Aerospace Engineering), Ahmed Amrah Abdulkadir (Cyber Security), and Babalola-Jacobs David Oluwasegun (Physics), each with a near-perfect CGPA of 4.99.
The commandant also announced the expansion of the institute’s postgraduate programmes, noting that Master’s Degree offerings would increase from two to 12, while postgraduate diploma programmes would grow from four to 12 in the next academic session.
He said the expansion aligns with his vision to position AFIT as Nigeria’s leading centre for advanced technology education and research, aimed at strengthening the Nigerian Air Force’s operational and strategic capabilities.
Ademuwagun further stated that all graduating students would receive their original certificates immediately after the convocation, describing the initiative as a rare practice among public universities in the country
