Gov. Hyacinth Alia on Tuesday flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of 55.09 kilometres of road network in Gboko and its environs at the cost of N62.1 billion.
Performing the ceremony in Gboko, Alia expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu would soon inaugurate massive road infrastructure across the state.
The governor said that the Gboko road network would be the second longest road network in the state since the beginning of his administration.
He disclosed that the construction of other major roads, including the 57-kilometre road networks in the Benue South Senatorial District and the Awajir–Oju Road, was ongoing.
Alia charged contractors handling the projects to ensure that they deliver the projects before the commencement of campaign activities.
“I therefore urge you to keep Mr President in your prayers even as you sustain your support for him as you prepare to elect us together for a second term.
“Just like you believe I need more time to do more great works, I cannot effectively do it without the kind of support and backing I am enjoying from President Tinubu,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Director of Civil Engineering, Ministry of Works, Mr Tivfa Wombo said the road projects included the reconstruction and dualisation of Yandev Roundabout-Lubona Junction and the reconstruction and dualisation of Captain Dawns Road.
Wombo said the projects also included the reconstruction of the NKST Anzua Link Road, the reconstruction of Bristow Roundabout – Tor Tiv Palace (Akaahar Adi) Road and the reconstruction of J S Tarka – Mkar Roundabout (a dual carriageway).
Others, according to him, include the reconstruction and dualisation of Tor Tiv Roundabout – Lessel Road and the reconstruction of a dual-carriage Tor Tiv Roundabout (Gondo Aluor) – to Mkar to Ameladu Road.
The director stated that the projects would cost N62.135bn, adding that roads would be completed in five months.
He said the contract was awarded to Jamud Construction Limited.
The Group Managing Director, Jamud Construction Limited, Jacob Momoh, assured that work would commence immediately and promised to deliver quality work within the stipulated period.
Gboko Local Government Chairman, Torseer Yina, in his welcome address, appreciated the governor for the projects, adding that when completed, it would give Gboko a facelift.
