An Abeokuta, Ogun State-based herbalist has reported a man who approached him with a human skull to the police.
The police on Friday, dragged the 32-year-old man, Adetunji Abayomi, before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, over alleged possession of the human skull.
Abayomi, who has no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge bordering on acts of misconduct to the corpse of an unidentified person.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 17, 2025, at about 1:00 p.m. in the Ikija area of Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun alleged that Abayomi unlawfully removed a human skull from a grave using a cutlass.
He said that the defendant allegedly approached a herbalist, claiming he had a human skull for sale, and both parties had negotiated and agreed on the price.
According to the prosecution, the herbalist immediately, reported the case to the police, while pretending to agree with the purchase.
He alleged that the defendant was then lured to his office for payment, where he was arrested with the skull.
The prosecutor alleged that during interrogation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of how he got possession of the skull.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 242 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She, consequently, adjourned the case until Jan. 19, for hearing.
