The GOC 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, says the invaluable sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen will never be forgotten.
Wase, who doubles as the Commander, Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, made the promise on Sunday in Kaduna at the Interdenominational Church Service in commemoration of the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 .
“We will ensure their families remain part of our military family, honour our veterans, and stand as a bulwark against those who threaten us,”he vowed.
Wase said the special Interdenominational Church Service for the officers and men was a recognition of their selfless services to the nation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that that the the service, held at the division’s Saint Peter’s Catholic Military Church, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, was attended by senior military officers, government officials and other distinguished guests
NÀN also reports that the GOC was represented by the Chief of Staff, 1 Div. Brig.-Gen. Timothy Opurum .
He oted that the special church service was significant in further acknowledging the sacrifices of the troops on the frontline.
He added that the service also served as a reassurance to the families of the fallen heroe that their loved ones were remembered and celebrated.
In his remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kaduna State, Dr James Kanyip, who represented the Gov. Uba Sani,, stated that the state government joined the Armed Forces in recognising and appreciating the sacrifices of military personnel.
He said that this was particularly the fallen heroes who paid the supreme prices so that others may live in peace.

Commander, Engineering Depot, appreciated the veterans for their services to the nation.
He also charged the serving personnel to remain professional in the discharge of their duties.
In his sermon, the officiating Chaplain, Lt.-Col. Martins Awoyinka emphasised the need to continually remember and pray for military personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
According to him, this is to ensure peace and security, thereby enabling the citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear.
NÀN reports that the dignitaries at the event included the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Air Training Command, Nigerian Air Force, Principal Staff Officers and Formation Commanders of the division, and Heads of Paramilitary agencies.
Others included the members of the Nigerian Legion, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), the Nigerian Air Force officer’s Wives (NAFOWA) and other invited guests.
