Prelate of the Methodist church Nigeria, Eminence Samuel Uche, has rubbished the claim by Busola
According to Uche, time ought to have overtaken such an incident if at al it happened.
Besides, the prelate said that there might be no truth in the rape allegations, just as it might involve some blackmail.
In an interview with Prisca Chiemeka, a media practitioner, he said:
‘Some accusations are foolish. For me, from my way of analysing things, there is no truth in such a thing. You say somebody raped you were 26 years or so and after 16 years years you come and report. What is wrong. Maybe you demanded money or you wanted some payment and the person did not give you, then you decide to blackmail the person.
‘Why do you punish somebody for a sin committed 16 years ago. Our lord Jesus Christ says any sinner that believes is forgiven. He said repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand. How do you go and tarnish the image of a man or woman who commited something from years ago. Is it relevant?”
The rape allegation has drawn widespread ire against Fatoyinbo, who has been forced to step down as COZA’s pastor.
While his wife, Modele, and many other members of the church still support him, the scandal has made some members distance themselves from the church.
Dignitaries, including church leaders, have also spoken about the matter.
These include Pastors EA Adeboye, Sam Adeyemi and Poju Oyemade.
All of them condemned rape and urged men of God to be extra careful.
The, however, also variously called for investigation and remission where necessary.
Christian bodies, including the Christians Association of Nigeria and the PFN have also reacted, with CAN, while condemning rape, also calling for caution and investigation before judgement is passed.
