Sen. Sunday Katung (APC-Kaduna South) has laudedSen. Sunday Katung over the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
Katung gave the commendation while speaking at the 2026 Gworok Cultural Festival in Kagoro, Kaura Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the school took off in September 2025 after receiving Federal Government’s approval as Nigeria’s first specialised university of applied sciences.
The lawmaker expressed optimistic that the institution will stimulate local commerce, create jobs, and transform Southern Kaduna into an emerging education hub.
He also commended Gov. Uba Sani for his efforts at restoring hope and peace within the senatorial district.
He said, “We pray for the sustenance of the peace we enjoy today and enhanced development.”
Katun emphasised that the Gworok people had shown admirable commitment to preserving their tradition in the face of modern pressures.
“I particularly salute our traditional rulers, elders, cultural custodians, women and youths who continue to uphold our heritage.
“The involvement of young people in the festival gives hope that our culture will not only thrive but thrive in the years ahead,” he stated.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the Chief of Kagoro, Ufuwai Bonet, said the festival was organised to offer thanksgiving to God for providence, protection and bountiful blessings enjoyed through the past year.
Bonet explained that the theme of this year’s festival is a deliberate acknowledgement of the divine hand that has steered the Chiefdom.
“We thank God for the bountiful harvest that has filled our barns, crowning the labour of our farmers with plenty,” he said.
He thanked Tinubu and Sani for ensuring that every region and section of the state is given equal opportunity to serve.
