The Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s food security agenda through backyard farming, in line with the First Lady’s pet project, ‘Everyone Has a Garden’.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that its Managing Director,  Rabiu Bichi, disclosed this shortly after inspecting  a pilot Irish potato farm within HJRDA’s premises.
He said that the initiative would  sensitise and train young men as well as women on innovative farming practices using limited spaces.
According to him, the project aims to enhance food availability and reduce external dependence.
Bichi said that the pilot phase uses 100 sacks for Irish potato cultivation, with each bag expected to yield hundreds of tubers.
He stated that HJRDA would  train over 5,000 young women and men on this cost-effective, space-saving method.
