A 43-year-old man, Nurani Afeez, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding a woman of N2.2 million by falsely selling her a government-owned building.
The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, stealing and forgery.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on June 10, 2024, at the Iyaganku area of Ibadan.
Ibrahim alleged that the defendant, with intent to defraud, obtained N2.2 million from the complainant, Ms Adeola Adeleke, under the false pretence of selling her a building.
He alleged that the defendant knew that the building was situated on a plot of land already acquired by the Oyo State Government for the Circular Road project at Quarry Mogana area, Oluyole Extension, Ibadan.
He said the defendant forged a police letterhead and used it to prepare a land sale agreement for the complainant.
Ibrahim also alleged that the defendant stole the N2.2 million from the complainant.
He said the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 419, 467 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mr M. Mudashiru, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Mudashiru said one of the sureties must be a close relative, while the second must present a three-year tax clearance.
He adjourned the case until March 3, 2026, for hearing.
