The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, has arrested a 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist, simply identified as Richard, for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old step-daughter.
The spokesperson for the command, ASCI Kehinde Adeleke, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Osogbo.
Adeleke said the suspect, who resides at Ofatedo Area of Osogbo, was arrested on Nov.14, after his wife, the victim’s mother, reported the matter to NSCDC.
She said the wife, stated that her daughter was staying with the suspect’s mother and that during one of the suspect’s visits to his mother’s place, he dipped his fingers into the victim’s private part.
The spokesperson said the victim’s mother explained that she had been separated from the suspect due to physical abuse but left her daughter in care of the suspect’s mother.
According to the victim’s mother, after securing a new apartment and requested that her daughter join her, the suspect promised to go bring her from his mother’s place.
“It was alleged that it was the same day the suspect brought the victim back to his house from his own mother’s place, to hand over to the mother, that he defiled her,” she said.
She said the victim’s mother reported that when her daughter was handed over to her, she noticed she had a foul smell and upon examining her body, she found out that she had been defiled.
Adeleke said the suspect had made confessional statement of committing the crime.
She said the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Adeleke said the State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Igbalawole Sotiyo, warned that the command would not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law upon anyone found molesting minor.
