The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe, has dismissed report insinuating a cover-up in extortion allegation levelled against its perssonel.
A pastoralist, Ardo Karami had accused a personnel of the corps, ACC Ahmed Michika, of multi million Naira alleged extortion.
The spokesman of the corps, DSC Bala Garba, made the clarification in a statement on Tuesday in Damaturu.
In an online media report, Karami accused the corps of attempt to conceal the alleged extortion complaint brought against Michika, who is also Head of its Agro Rangers Unit.
In a swift reaction, Garba said the corps had set up a committee to investigate the complaint of alleged extortion against its personnel.
“The state NSCDC Commandant, Mr Abubakar Musa, upon receipt of a petition by Karami, through his counsel, constituted a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the allegation.
“Members of the committee include the corps’ Head of Intelligence/Investigation, Legal Unit and three others, their mandate is to thoroughly and decisively conduct an in depth investigation and come up with a vivid report for further action.
“To make the records straight, and refute the claim of the petitioner, that the leadership of the corps did not act on his complaint is unacceptable.
“Commandant Abubakar acted timely by forming a committee to investigate and uncover whoever may be involved without sparing or shielding anyone who may be culpable.
“In view of the foregoing, Commandant Abubakar emphatically states that, the tenet of the corps to underscore professionalism, transparency and accountability will never be compromised because the corps embraces humility, integrity in service delivery,” Garba said.
He urged the aggrieved party to be calm, assuring that the corps would not compromise in its effort to bring to book anyone found wanting.
