Relevant agencies have debunked a report that Nigeria lost 16 youths in an accident said to involve 16 Prospective Corps Members (PCMs).
They reportedly lost their lives in a road crash while travelling to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Gombe State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday debunked the report.
The NYSC orientation camp in Gombe has also since opened, with prospective corps members scheduled to be sworn in on Friday.
A viral post alleged that the crash claimed 16 people, while two others who were critically injured were taken to an unnamed hospital.
RSC Public Relations Officer, Janet Kassa said, “I have checked with my colleagues there is no indication this happened in Gombe, not to mention that it even occurred.
“I have placed a series of calls across units and commands to authenticate the report, but there is no sign. This may be one of those posts to get comments and views.”
Kassa added that she would notify our correspondent if any credible information emerges, saying, “I will let you know once we come up with fresh revelations, but for now, it’s not true. It should be disregarded.”
The victims were said to be graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) in Ondo State. They were travelling in an 18‑seater bus when the crash occurred.
