The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening child protection systems across the state.
The DSVA made this known on Tuesday in a statement shared on its X handle, @Lagosdsva, to mark the 2025 World Day for the Prevention of, and Healing from, Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence.
It noted that the 2025 global theme: “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making,” reflected the urgent need for data-driven solutions to combat child abuse.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in 2022, the United Nations strengthened this global effort by designating Nov. 18 as the World Day for the Prevention of, and Healing from, Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence.
This is an important step in uniting the international community around awareness, prevention, and support for survivors.
The agency emphasised that safeguarding children was a collective responsibility.
According to the DSVA, prioritising evidence-based policies is essential for ensuring that interventions are effective, justice systems are responsive and survivors receive the support they need to heal.
It highlighted that reliable data and informed decision-making form the foundation of a safer society for children.
The DSVA called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected case of child abuse.
“The agency’s toll-free hotline, 0-8000-333-333, remains available for immediate reporting and support.
“Every child deserves safety, dignity, and a society that places their well-being first,” it stated.
