As the Christmas season approaches, the Anambra Police Command says it remains committed to the safety and security of residents in the state
The State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikioye Orutugu said this in a statement issued in Awka, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
He described the ember months of September to December, as being typically associated with heightened commercial activities, increased movement of people and goods.
He added that the festive season unfortunately, also witnesses a rise in opportunistic criminal activities.
“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety, peace, and security of residents throughout this period and beyond,” he said.
According to Orutugu, operatives of the command has intensified visibility policing, highway patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-driven raids on identified criminal hideouts.
“Joint security deployments are active across public places, markets, religious centres and major transit points,” he said.
He, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, and avoid late-night movements.
“Ensure that your homes, shops, and business premises are properly secured, report suspicious persons, gatherings, or activities immediately to the nearest police formation.
“Communities are further encouraged to strengthen their local security networks in collaboration with the police,” he said.
The command also warned against reckless driving, excessive speed, drinking while driving, and violation of traffic rules.
He also urged residents to be cautious of online transactions, fraudulent investment schemes, fake job offers, among others, during the period.
“Residents are further enjoined to always verify before you trust, as security is a shared responsibility,” he said

He warned those planning to take advantage of the festivities for crime, to desist aadding that the full weight of the law awaits offenders.
