The police, on Thursday, brought. an application before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, seeking remand of a 23-year-old man, Ogunyemi Omotayo over alleged burglary and stealing.
In a form k filed by the police, the prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, said that the defendant committed the offence on Oct.8 at about 10:00 p.m in Ikole-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the house of one Mr Solomon Samson, and stole a motorcycle belonging to the complainant valued at N1.2 million.
According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of section 302(9)and 322(c) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The plea of the defendant was not taken .
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Meanwhile, Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, arguing that the motorcycle stolen has already been recovered by the police.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case untill Jan.13, 2026 for hearing.
