The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abas, says the Nigerian Navy will do its utmost best in addressing the country’s prevailing security challenges.
Abas gave the assurance on Tuesday when he visited the Nigerian Navy Special Operations Command and other Navy formations, including the Nigerian Navy Provost Regulating School in Makurdi.
The CNS, while interacting with newsmen, said that the Nigerian Navy under his leadership would work with other security agencies in tackling the challenges.
He promised to work with the stakeholders, as one is important to make the country secure, better and greater.
“I assure Nigerians that we are going to do our utmost best in securing this country.
“Operations Command is one of our latest commands; I am here to have firsthand knowledge of what is happening with a view to expediting action.
“It is a critical and strategic command of the Nigerian Navy, and we want it up and running, and that is why I decided to come here first.
“I am going to build on the existing plans to tackle bunkering in the country. I am going to deploy more of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technology to tackle the challenges.
“That is what I am doing differently from what we have been doing that has been yielding results,” he stated.
According to him, oil production has increased as a result of improved security in the region, and they would sustain the efforts to ensure that it improves further.
Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue, who received the CNS, pledged the support and cooperation of the state government to all security agencies to succeed in their assignment of securing the nation.
Alia, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Sam Ode, said that Benue had for a long time hosted other arms of the Nigerian armed forces.
“The Nigerian Air Force has been for a very long time, the same as the Nigerian Army.
“The Nigerian Navy is consolidating on the territory of Benue, and our desire is to play a good host to them, other arms of the armed forces, paramilitary and other security stakeholders.
“This is to help them tackle the security challenges we are facing not only in Benue but Nigeria at large,” he said.
