Prof. Oyedunni Sola-Arulogun, Vice Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has appealed to the Federal Government to extend the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to private universities.
Oyedunni made the plea at a news conference heralding the institution’s 7th convocation on Thursday in Abeokuta.
She noted that extending the fund to private universities would help ongoing researches in the different institutions.
“Private universities don’t enjoy TETFUND, but our plea is that it should be extended to us as well, because there is a lot of research going on in the private universities.
“These different researches also contribute to the growth and wellbeing of Nigerians. It will be a fantastic idea if the Federal Government can extend the hands of fellowship to researchers in the private universities.
“Lecturers in the private universities are also into so many research works that will benefit humanity,” she said.
Speaking on use of Artificial Intelligence, Sola-Arulogun advised students to use it responsibly, adding that it was designed to make students smarter, but not solely dependent on it.
She noted that it was almost impossible to receive anything from AI without imputing any data, hence the need to put in some work.
“Whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence is here with us, but if there is a zero level, AI will also give you zero, there has to be data for it to work.
“Some student will just copy and paste without putting in any work, but artificial intelligence cannot replace the natural thinking faculty.
“We don’t need to fear the emergence of AI. It will make humans work smarter, but it must be used responsibly. It has not come to replace humans,” the vice chancellor said.
Reeling out the school’s achievements Sola-Arulogun disclosed that the school would induct Nigeria’s first ever Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) graduates on Oct. 25.
According to her, a total of 44 students graduated in the First Class division, 133 with Second Class Upper, 63 in the Second Class Lower division, while 12 graduated with Third Class, for the 2024/2025 academic year.
She added that Chrisland Postgraduate School had also secured full accreditation to commence academic programmes.
“Faculty of Nursing recorded 100 per cent success in their board examination and the Department of Physiotherapy professional examination, also recorded 100 per cent pass.
“Chrisland emerged 5th at the Nigerian Private Universities Games 2025, which held at Babcock University, Ilishan.
“We will also be inducting our first set of Medical Laboratory Science graduates and the second set of our Nursing graduates,”
