The Kebbi Police Command has dismissed claims by the state chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) that nine local government areas of the state were ungovernable.
CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
He said: “The attention of the Kebbi Police Command has been drawn to a press release credited to the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kebbi Branch, alleging that nine local government areas are ungovernable and further calling for a boycott of courts within the state.
“The command wishes to categorically debunk this claim as false, misleading, and grossly irresponsible.
“At no time or circumstance has any part of Kebbi become ungovernable or inaccessible to law enforcement or judicial authorities.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the command wishes to clarify that the abduction of Mr Isiaku Danjuma, a legal practitioner based in Kebbi but an indigene of Ibeto, Niger, occurred in Ibeto, Niger — outside the jurisdiction of Kebbi State.”
According to the image-maker, the victim had travelled from Niger to Abuja and merely joined the bus provided by the Kebbi Government for those attending the investiture ceremony of Hudu Lawan, SAN.
He added that on the return journey, the lawyer alighted at Kontagora and proceeded to Ibeto, where he was unfortunately abducted.
Nafi’u said: “The command remains deeply concerned about the said regrettable incident.
“However, it is misguided and counterproductive for any professional association to issue blanket and far-reaching statements without first engaging or verifying facts from the police or relevant security agencies.
“Such statements can only serve to create unnecessary fear, embolden criminal elements, and undermine ongoing security operations.”
The image-maker quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bello Sani as assuring residents of the state that Kebbi remains safe and secure, and that law-abiding citizens should go about their lawful duties without fear.
He further urged anyone with useful information that could assist the police in the ongoing effort to combat crimes to come forward with credible intelligence through established channels.
“The command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property, safeguarding public peace, and ensuring that criminals, wherever they operate are apprehended and brought to justice.
“The command equally calls for constructive engagement and collaboration from professional bodies, community leaders, and all stakeholders in the collective fight against crimes.
“Finally, the police command calls on the abductors of Barrister Isiaku Danjuma to release him immediately, unconditionally, and unharmed,” Nafi’u urged.
