The NNPC Foundation has launched its Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme in Kano, targeting the North-West Zone. The initiative is designed to equip farmers with practical skills to significantly boost productivity and contribute to national food security.
The program focuses on vulnerable farmers, women, and youth. It has already engaged over 7,000 registered farmers across four geopolitical zones in its national rollout.
Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, explained the program’s core goal. She stated that the training is intended to equip households with practical skills and market knowledge. This will help them move from subsistence farming to achieving sustainable income and greater economic resilience.
Arukwe was represented by Mrs Eugenia Dominion, Executive Director of Finance at NNPC Foundation.
The training modules include climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest handling, financial literacy, cooperative formation, and digital tools for market access.
Arukwe urged the farmers from Kano and Jigawa states to fully participate in the programme, stressing that its success will be measured by improved yields, reduced losses, and stronger cooperatives.
Dr Danjuma Mamood, Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, pledged the state government’s support for the programme.
According to him, the government prioritises agricultural transformation, employing 1,038 extension officers and investing in mechanised farming.
A beneficiary, Alhaji Ado Japanese, from Gwale Local Government Area, commended the NNPC Foundation for organising the training, saying it will mobilise farmers toward increased food production.
