A 26-year-old man named Samuel Akapo has appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court. He is facing a charge of indecent assault. The defendant, who has no fixed address, was arraigned on Monday.

Prosecutor Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi informed the court about the alleged offense. Oriyomi stated that Akapo unlawfully and indecently assaulted the complainant, Beauty Bello. The incident allegedly took place on September 19 in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi said that the defendant was a tenant in the house of the complainant’s mother and attempted to take advantage of her.

He explained that the mother of the complainant, who came inside the house during the assault, caught the defendant, and she raised the alarm.

He said that the offense contravened Section 149(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Nov. 3 for hearing.
