The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has announced that it will supply no fewer than 1,000 electric vehicles, buses, and tricycles to boost transportation at a low cost in Adamawa.
The NEDC‘s coordinator in Adamawa, Mr Khalifa Mohammed, said this during a stakeholders meeting in Yola on wednesday. The vehicles, which are part of a broader initiative approved by President Bola Tinubu, will be charged electronically and will not require engine oil or petroleum.
According to Mohammed, the commission will soon organise training on assembling and charging procedures for the vehicles. He also said that the NEDC will engage transport workers and other stakeholders before fully implementing the initiative.
Mohammed also said, as part of the commission’s plan to boost healthcare service delivery, it would introduce vulnerable health insurance scheme in the state.
According to him, this will enable vulnerable people in the society to access medical attention and drugs.
He added that the pilot project would be inaugurated in three Local Government Areas, one in each senatorial district.
He said the commission had constructed solar powered boreholes in various institutions and communities, currently installing solar powered street lights.
”The solar street light will help in improving security situations in the community among other benefits.
He said that the NEDC had impacted in various sectors health, education, security, agriculture and capacity building as well as skills acquisition training.
Mohammed called on the benefiting communities to take ownership of its projects for maximum benefit.
He also appealed to media organisations to sensitise the public on the existence of the commission and its projects.
Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief press Secretary to Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, assured that with this partnership, the narrative of NEDC in Adamawa would be different.
He acknowledged the contribution of NEDC in the state and tasked them to do more for maximum benefit of the citizens.
Wonosikou advised the coordinator to hold periodic review meetings with host communies and ensure that the commission continue to sponsor programmes toward achieving its objectives.
